In the preliminary appraisal, you identify cards from the customer's photos and description and decide the amounts. You then present those amounts as a quote and record the customer's response. The final appraisal on the cards that arrive is covered in [Shipping and final appraisal](/en/guides/purchase/shipping-and-final).

## Identify the cards

Cards read from a LINE chat or declared on a form appear on the customer's **Appraisal requests** tab. Cards not yet matched to the card catalog show **Card not identified**.

For an unidentified card, click **Identify** on its row and choose **Use this card** from the candidates.

To add a card, click **Add card manually**. Find the card with **Search by photo** or **Search by keyword**, enter the grade, certification number and quantity, then click **Add to items**.

Choosing a card from the card catalog fills in its market price and image automatically.

## Decide the amounts

On the **Appraisal requests** tab, enter each card's **Condition and grade**, **Reference price**, **Buy rate** and quantity, and the appraisal amount is calculated. The reference price fills in from the market, and the buy rate comes from your [Buy rates](/en/guides/settings/pricing) settings.

On the deal's **Quotes** tab, you can create a revision of the quote and adjust the amounts.

- **Check market prices** fetches the latest market price for each card and grade.
- **Apply store buy rates** re-applies your shop's rates to every line.
- To change a single amount, enter an **Adjustment (JPY)** and a **Reason for adjustment**.
- When you're done, save the revision, for example **Save revision 1**.

For a closer look at market prices, open **Market prices** in the sidebar. It opens in a new tab, where you can see each card's price history and prices by grade.

:::tip
Cards that are on your buy boost list show the boosted price and how many are left under the market price. The boosted price isn't applied to the appraisal amount automatically, so adjust the amount as needed. See [Buy boosts](/en/guides/purchase/purchase-boosts).

### Research and reviews

Send cards with no clear market price to a researcher with **Request market research**. If any card is appraised at or above the **Review threshold**, have another member check the quote with **Request review**. While research or a review is pending, the quote can't be presented. See [Research and reviews](/en/guides/purchase/research-and-reviews).

Select cards on the **Appraisal requests** tab and click **Request review of selected** to build a quote from those cards and request its review in one step.

## Present the quote

Once a quote has been reviewed, or doesn't need a review, **Present quote** appears. There are two ways to present it.

**Send on LINE**

Click **Send quote on LINE**, check the contents, and click **Send on
LINE**. This button appears for shops that set **Quote delivery** to **Sent
automatically when the quote is presented** in the LINE settings. A
successful send doesn't mean the customer has read or accepted the quote.

**Tell them another way**

Copy the **Message draft for LINE** and send it on LINE from Liny or a
similar tool. Then click **Mark as presented**. If a matching message is
found in the chat, you'll see **Did you present the quote in this LINE
message?**; click **Yes, mark as presented** to record it.

Save a PDF of the quote with **Download quote PDF**. To create the PDF, your business details must be filled in under **Organization** settings.

Quotes have an expiry date. Requote an expired quote and present it again.

## Record the customer's response

When the customer replies, record it under **Record customer response**.

- If they accept everything, click **Record acceptance** and confirm with **Record preliminary quote acceptance**. The deal becomes **Accepted** and moves on to shipping.
- If they accept only some cards, click **Accept some** and choose the accepted cards. The rest go back to the unquoted cards on the **Appraisal requests** tab.
- If the amount didn't work for them, use **Change buy rate and requote** to make a new quote and present it again.
